To earn his money in Switzerland has for many Germans quite an incentive, because the average salary in Switzerland is worldwide among the highest. But how much money can you ultimately count on? And how much is left over from the gross wage? The latter question can be answered by the Gross Net Calculator, which - fed with a few details - can calculate your salary. For the first question, on the other hand, we need to elaborate a bit.
To be able to determine the average wage in Switzerland, the so-called median value is calculated. This means that in an ascending order exactly the value in the middle is determined. So on the left side are 50% of the employees who earn less, on the right side the 50% who earn more. The value exactly in the middle is therefore our average income for Switzerland. This median value was CHF 6,502 in 2016 in the private and public sectors, and for all levels of education and for all ages. If we make another separation here, we look at an average salary in Switzerland of CHF 6,235 in the private sector and CHF 7,873 in the public sector. Since the exchange rate of the Swiss franc is roughly the same as that of the euro, we can assume that the euro amounts are approximately the same. If we then look at average salaries in Germany, which were 3,103 euros in 2008 and 3,880 euros in 2018, we see that there is a clear difference here.
